30 And he said unto him, I will not go; but I will depart to mine own land, and to my kindred.
31 And he said, Leave us not, I pray thee; forasmuch as thou knowest* how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and thou mayest be to us instead of eyes.
32 And it shall be, if thou go with us, yea, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto thee.

DAILY MANNA FOR TODAY

A small dog hit by a car was lying by the side of the road. A doctor who drove by noticed that the dog was still alive, picked it up and took it home. On examination, he found that the dog suffered only minor cuts and abrasions but was in shock. No sooner had he revived and cleaned him up than the dog suddenly jumped from his arms and scampered off. “What an ungrateful little dog,” he said to himself. He thought no more about the incident until the next evening when he heard a scratching at the door. When he opened it, there was the little dog he had treated with another hurt dog!

That little dog seemed to be of the same thought with Moses when he passionately invited Hobab, his father-in-law to go all the way with them to the Promised Land. Apparently, Hobab, had kept company with the Israelites for quite some time, travelling with them through many places. Moses wanted him to enter their rest in Canaan with them. However, Hobab was more persuaded to go back to his place.

Hobab’s reluctance did not discourage Moses from pressing further either. For believers in Christ, if we have truly tasted the goodness and grace of God and are conscious of the blessed hope ahead, the love for our fellow travellers in life should move us to compel them to come with us. They may put up some resistance, but we should not give up on them to bring them to the Saviour.

For the unconverted, some of whom are familiar with church culture, there is need to reconsider the matter. If this is your state, we entreat you to consider the Saviour’s offer more prudently and penitently seek God through faith in Christ. Forgiveness, grace, peace of mind, purity, purpose, victory and eternal life await you. Delay no longer.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
If heaven is your destination, invite others.
